F.I.R.S.T.
is a nonprofit organization that is run and sponsored by a man named
Dean Kamen. Mr. Kamen is responsible for the wheel chair that can safely
climb stairs. He also invented the Segway, the motorized scooter that
moves by the rider shifting their center of gravity.
The
actual competition is held each year, and runs from early January to
the end of April. The first weekend of January, there is an assembly
held in Massachusetts that explains the rules, and objective to that
year's game. A new game is developed each year by Dean Kamen, Woody
Flowers, an M.I.T. graduate, and other M.I.T. graduates. Woody Flowers
also does commentary and announcing for various competitions and the
nationals, which are held in locations like Epcot Center Orlando, Florida,
and the Astro Dome in Houston Texas.
